US-based online fresh food grocer FreshDirect has teamed up with technology company MasterCard to enable MasterPass at the checkout and improve shopping experience.

MasterPass offers a simple and convenient digital platform for faster and safer online shopping. Consumers can pay securely online or in app using any device as it safely stores payment and shipping information.

To set up a MasterPass account, consumers just have to visit the MasterCard website or sign up with participating banks.

Launched in 2013, MasterPass is now available in 24 countries worldwide and accepted at 250,000 merchants globally.

Michael Cyr, group executive, U.S. Market Development, MasterCard, commented, “FreshDirect’s promise to perfect the shop and deliver experience for its customers aligns with MasterCard’s commitment to ensure a seamless and secure checkout process. With MasterPass, consumers can go online, place their order and pay with just a click. The burden of entering delivery and billing information is eliminated, further enhancing the quality service FreshDirect provides.”

“Since day 1, FreshDirect’s mission has been to make great food easy to get,” said Jodi Kahn, Chief Consumer Officer, FreshDirect. “Launching the MasterPass technology across the FreshDirect shopping experience speaks directly to that mission, enabling our customers to take advantage of payment innovation and streamline check out.”

FreshDirect is now offering $25 discount on purchases made using MasterPass for the first time. This offer is available anywhere the grocer delivers and is valid until March 31, 2016.
