mopay, Less Touching

mopay, an international provider of payment solutions for online merchants, allows for one-touch confirmation for web-based carrier purchases, striking a fine balance between convenience and security.

Many payment companies have attempted to make checking out a more user-friendly experience. Consumers who used mopay’s carrier billing had to go through a three step process. This involved the input of their mobile numbers which would send back a PIN code. This code would then have to be entered in the payment window to confirm the purchaser’s request.

These security steps, while previously necessary, go against the streamlined nature of mobile devices and services. mopay has partnered with Telefonica and Vodafone to create a method which skips the authentication process.

It’s based on a new anonymous identification technology which parses a repeat user’s technical specifications, such as mobile phone or browser types, and then brings the user straight to the purchase confirmation screen without ever having to input personal information.

First introduced and tested in Germany, mopay claims the new process boosts customer conversion rates to 93% and more. mopay will aim to bring this technology to as many of its 80 markets as possible.

In a similar move, Braintree Payments partnered with Simple to also provide one-touch checkout to its customers through Braintree’s Venmo Touch.

More companies marrying simplicity and security would birth a major boon for the mobile commerce industry.
