Facebook Ditches Credits
Avid social gamers might have noticed a little something different about Facebook.
The social network’s Credits system, used to make in-game purchases, has been scrapped in favor of simply using a customer’s local currency instead.
The next time you get desperate enough to buy power-ups in Candy Crush, you’ll find that they will be purchasable in your local currency, and there will be no need to buy Facebook Credits.
You can purchase them directly without having to exchange money for credits.
The credit system was designed to simplify payments for Facebook users, but instead, caused confusion for both users and developers.
Moving to real currency pricing allows Facebook users to better gauge and evaluate the cost of virtual items, and will enable developers to find the right price point for markets around the world without having to worry about exchange rates.
This may be the first step in Facebook moving towards providing online payments and expanding Facebook commerce.
It’s been rumored that Facebook will transition to providing a “pay with Facebook” feature, and it has already tested it with online fashion retailer, JackThreads.
