Ex-Netflix CFO Joins Clinkle

Clinkle, the long-awaited mobile payment app that received $25 million in VC funding has added a talented leader to its company ranks.

The startup has recently acquired the talents of Barry McCarthy. McCarthy was the CFO of Netflix, and has sat on the boards of well-known companies including Chegg, Eventbrite, and Pandora.

McCarthy brings to the table a wealth of experience from Silicon Valley, especially with his time spent as an executive advisor for Technology Crossover Ventures, but this will be his first time leading a startup from before a public launch.

Lucas Duplan, a Stanford graduate, founded Clinkle, and he brought along with him more than a dozen other Stanford students to work on his big idea. Clinkle now boasts 50 employees. The talent and the funds are there. The next steps before the app’s proposed 2014 launch will be to gather great leaders to oversee the efforts to help Clinkle meet the weight of the company - and more importantly, the industry’s expectations.

McCarthy’s work at Netflix helped the streaming video service kill off Blockbuster. By next year, we’ll know if Clinkle will be successful in eliminating the physical wallet.
