J m Higgins $ Associates , founded in 1997, is a four person consultancy focused on authoring or critiquing business strategies abd value propositions in the payments ecosystem.

Jim, The Managing Director, has 40 years of professional experience in the card and payment industries. as an senior manager and as an independent consultant serving card Issuers, including banks, retailers, acquirers, issuers, investors and other entities interested in the card and payments industries. He also served as an expert witness on prepaid cards in Federal patent trials.

He has launched and managed credit card, debit card, gift card, reloadable prepaid card, loyalty programs, and other financial service business lines for employers and clients.

Since 1997 he has spent approx. ½ of his career as a consultant; the other ½ as a manager, executive , or banking officer. Often serves as an interim executive for clients. Clients include banks, corporations, retailers, issuers, acquirers, and over a dozen investment firms (P/E, VC, IB’s). Employers include Sears Credit, Discover, Fifth Third Bank, Wal-Mart, and others.

His recent focus has been on the next generation of payment products and the technologies that drive the products including prepaid cards, mobile payments, NFC, QR codes, Bluetooth, WiFi, and other RFID technologies. Plus EMV, mPOS, Tokenization /SUN’s, and more.
