Worldline Supports Comdirect and Visa with Contactless Payment Experience at Beach Volleyball Event
Frankfurt/Main, August 29th, 2018 - Enjoy first-class sports on the beach and pay for refreshments without using cash - that’s possible during an important national sports event at the end of August. In a joint project with comdirect bank AG and Visa, Worldline [Euronext: WLN], the European market leader in payment and transaction services, is bringing contactless payments to Timmendorfer Strand from August 31st to September 2nd, 2018.Thousands of visitors will be able to test wearable contactless payments at all participating stalls during the event.
Easy payment in real time
The 5,000 bracelets used at this sports event include Worldline’s first open-loop wearable solution. It offers visitors a straightforward and cashless payment solution: a simple movement of the wrist past a stall’s terminal, and the payment is confirmed with a beep and is completed. This offers users an attractive alternative payment solution for places where you don’t want to carry cash or cards - such as on the beach. The wearables can be purchased on site at the comdirect stand with a balance of 10, 20, 30 or 50 euros. Each balance receives an additional credit of five euros from comdirect. Bracelets with a credit of five euros will also be handed out on site by comdirect, free of charge. This allows all visitors to familiarize themselves with contactless payment processes in a dynamic environment. For this purpose, Worldline has equipped all stands at the event with innovative NFC payment terminals, so that payment is also possible with all credit cards with contactless payment functions.
Technology for anywhere
Thanks to its adaptability, the technology used in the wearables can be applied in many other scenarios. Comdirect customers can also pay with Google Pay via smartphone on Worldline’s terminals at the event. With the support of Google Pay, Worldline aims to provide users with a convenient alternative payment to cash and card, particularly for smaller everyday purchases. Together with mobile payment terminals such as Worldline’s YOXIMO, fast, secure, and contactless payments are possible everywhere. This technology is available now and is already included in the latest generation of Worldline’s terminals. Worldline hereby offers a suitable solution for small and medium-sized companies with a high customer interaction rate and creates added value for their customers.
“An attractive sports event is the ideal environment to introduce users to contactless payment. Volleyball is fast, direct, and dynamic. And that’s exactly how we want the payment to be for visitors. Together with our partners, comdirect and Visa, we are confident that we can get the spectators at Timmendorfer Strand excited about the wearables,” says Michael Pip, Head of Merchant Services Central Europe at Worldline.
“As a smart financial advisor, we want to offer our customers solutions that make life easier and simpler in all financial matters. We are confident that we, together with Worldline and Visa, will provide visitors of the sports event with a unique mobile payment experience in a great environment,” adds Matthias Hach, Marketing and Vertriebsvorstand at comdirect.
“We are very pleased that, together with Worldline and comdirect, we can further advance contactless payments in Germany. We are seeing a rapid development in new payment methods - whether through wearables, smartwatches or fitness trackers - we are convinced that these new form factors offer consumers an enormous advantage in terms of the speed and convenience of cashless payments,” says Volker Koppe, Head of Digital, Central Europe at Visa.
