Fintech Power 50 Adds Fintech Expert Mark Walker to the Roster
The Fintech Power 50, for those not familiar, is a group of financial technology (fintech) firms that have come together to act as a “central hub”, allowing the businesses therein to share contacts, information, and help each other develop the future of fintech. It’s not surprising that mobile payments would benefit in some way from such an arrangement, so the news that the group added Mark Walker to its lineup is good news for mobile payments.
The Fintech Power 50 is actually a pretty busy place; over 450 nominees, at last report, have been set to join the Fintech Power 50 overall, which would suggest that the organization’s planning to eliminate potential candidates at a rate of at least eight-to-one against. Companies appear eager to join the Fintech Power 50, so how does Mark Walker factor in?
Walker previously worked with the Department for International Trade, as well as the London Mayor’s International Business Programme, giving him a lot of background in both international trade and likely many of the payment and other fintech apparatuses involved in making that trade happen. That experience, combined with his own clear interest in advancing the causes of international trade made him an excellent fit for the Fintech Power 50’s operations.
Walker himself noted “Bringing both worlds together has always been a challenge within the constraints of Government supported programs. However, we feel with the strong team and strategic partner support, we now have the ability to push the final 50 companies forward even further to support not just their early growth but the long term profitability of their organizations.”
The advancement of fintech is directly related to the advancement of mobile payments. Given that mobile payments is itself a kind of fintech at its base, advancing fintech could readily bring about advancements that directly impact mobile payments; whether it’s the development of automated checkout systems or just a new way to engage in cross-border payments, there’s a lot of room for development in the fintech sector.
Having someone like Mark Walker along, meanwhile, helps ensure that the developments keep coming along, and from there, that mobile payments and all the other breeds of fintech out there can put these developments to work.
