Uber Passes Major Milestone With Over 10 Billion Total Trips

Just recently, we heard about how well Uber had been doing in the ridesharing market, and how hefty a chunk of the market it’s taken in the process, fairly dwarfing competitors like Lyft. A new report recently out from Uber shows us just how well it’s actually doing as it recently just cleared its 10 billionth total trip.

That’s right; Uber hit 10 billion total trips. The company took a look at the numbers and discovered that, on Sunday, June 10, at 10:12 PM GMT, 173 trips were simultaneously started covering both passenger and delivery runs. The bloc of trips turned into a major milestone, as with that 173-trip run, the company slid successfully across the 10 billion marker.

With over 21 countries on five continents contributing to the total, it’s no surprise to see the company gain ground so quickly. The arrival of this milestone prompted Uber to release some related trivia, including the shortest Uber Eats delivery—half a mile—and the longest trip, a 41-mile ride to an airport in Denver. Latin America, meanwhile, saw the most simultaneous trips going on on any continent.

Uber, meanwhile, issued an appropriately positive press release, saying “It’s safe to say we’re just as excited as we were on Day One to continue building the best products and experiences for the next 10 billion trips. From all of us at Uber, thank you.” Uber also took the opportunity to talk about a few future developments, including noting its earlier-announced plans to offer discounted fares for those willing to wait a while on the ride.

Uber’s stance as one of the great ridesharing firms out there—as well as one of the best uses for mobile payments—is clearly demonstrated by the numbers it’s posted. Even after some debacles in recent years, it’s still managed to deliver high-quality experiences for its users, to the point where it’s taken most of the market. With such a lead cemented over its competitors, it will likely continue to be top of the heap even as it works to innovate and create new ways to provide its customers with desired experiences.

Ten billion rides is no small thing, and the next 10 billion may be closer in hand than anyone expects.
