Mobile Payments Firm FreedomPay Puts Joy in Christmas

With the year winding down and Christmas now in the rear-view mirror for another 360-odd days, it’s easy to forget about the “less-fortunate,” as we’re often hearing about from media circles trying to do a little good. FreedomPay, meanwhile, dropped word our way about its own initiative to help on that front, and filled us in on its “Adopt a Family” plan that would help put a little light back in the season where it otherwise might not have been previously.

FreedomPay’s plan is to take teams from within the company—ostensibly employees—and assign them to either a specific family or to its Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) unit, delivering help for those in local shelters. This is the second year, reports note, that FreedomPay has put this plan to work in its home city of Philadelphia.

It’s not just families and the children’s hospital, either; FreedomPay also had a hand in Soldiers’ Angels, a program that filled Christmas stockings with a range of items—books, games, and non-perishable items—that were set to be sent to soldiers and veterans. At last report, all the gifts involved had been delivered already.

FreedomPay’s founder and CEO Tom Durovsik noted “FreedomPay is thrilled to be participating for a second year in the Adopt a Family program, sponsoring families from CHOP and Women Against Abuse Center. During the holiday season, it is important to take time to support others and the city of Philadelphia.”

Such measures are certainly welcome, especially by those whose lives are affected by the various issues coming under the purview of the program. Certainly, sick kids, soldiers, and those in shelters will be happy to see a little brighter Christmas than otherwise. Something like this takes resources, of course, and FreedomPay’s payment tools will help provide those. Done right, this kind of thing can be enriching all around as well as provide positive optics for the company that actually engages in such behavior.

FreedomPay has delivered some real value here for those in need, and with Christmas now finished, it’s shown us all how mobile payments can be about more than convenient holiday shopping. That’s a lesson we all could use, sometimes.
