STUDY: Two-Thirds of Holiday Shoppers Feel Anxiety When Their Phone Battery Runs Low
NEW YORK (December 12, 2024) – ChargeItSpot, the leading provider of cell phone charging stations for major retailers, events, and other indoor public venues, has announced the results of its “2018 Battery Life Report” just in time for the holiday season.
Shoppers rely on their phones for so much during the holidays. Whether it’s pre-planning with shopping lists, using retailer apps in-store, or getting opinions from friends and family while considering purchases — it all starts with your mobile device.
With that in mind, ChargeItSpot’s latest study examined “low-battery anxiety” among holiday shoppers, asking them how they feel when their battery is running low. ChargeItSpot polled more than 1,000 shoppers in malls across the country using its phone charging stations. Below are the key takeaways from the study.
When shoppers were asked how they feel when their phone battery is running low, ChargeItSpot found that almost two-thirds (64%) are either panicked (25%), frustrated (16%), upset (12%), or angry (11%). Other shoppers felt unaffected (12%), happy (6%), or other (13%).
The vast majority of shoppers (87%) felt it was important to have their phone battery fully charged during holiday shopping trips (68% said it was very important, while 19% said it was important). Meanwhile, just 13% said it wasn’t important (7% slightly important and 6% not important).
“People rely on their mobile phones for shopping trips now more than ever, especially during the holiday season,” said Douglas Baldasare, CEO and Founder of ChargeItSpot. “People use their phones throughout the shopping journey — from checking shopping lists to comparing prices. So, imagine being out on Black Friday only to realize your battery is at 5%,and there is no charger within reach. Panic sets in.”
Shoppers felt their phone battery had gotten worse in the past year
When asked if their phone battery life has gotten better or worse in the past year, 28% percent said it was worse, while 30% said there was no change.
“It’s no surprise that many believed their phone battery was getting worse with age,” added Baldasare. “If you have an older device, it’s more likely that you’ll suffer from low-phone anxiety more frequently.”
Breaking down responses by carriers, T-Mobile customers saw their batteries last longer than the competition. with just 22% of T-Mobile users reporting that their phone batteries have gotten worse in the past year.
