Postmates Brings Mobile Payments Delivery to Almost Two Out of Three US Households
If you ever wanted food delivered to your house, but your favorite restaurant just won’t offer delivery, take heart. There’s a very good chance that may happen soon. Recently, Postmates announced that it’s poised to stage a hefty uptake in its delivery radius. So hefty, in fact, that it now covers 60 percent of the United States.
Postmates’ expansion gives it access to 134 new cities, giving it access to over 550 total. Just in the last few months, it’s added over 264 cities and raised fully $300 million to keep its expansion plans going strong. Its Unlimited subscription product, meanwhile, has seen over three-fold growth, which allows unlimited free delivery for a monthly, or annual, fee.
Among the newly-minted addresses accepting Postmates are Athens, Georgia; Colombia, South Carolina; Little Rock, Arkansas and Providence, Rhode Island. Customers recently receiving access to Postmates can now get $4 off a Chipotle order with the coupon code CHIPOTLE134. This is all in addition to Postmates’ grocery delivery service Fresh, which has allowed unprecedented access to delivered groceries.
Merchant lead and senior vice president of Postmates, Dan Mosher, noted “Chipotle is one of the most popular merchants on the Postmates platform. We are thrilled to grow this relationship, drive down the cost to our shared customers and increase our reliability together. We’ve already delivered over one million of their burritos and two million of their burrito bowls to our customers, and we will continue to ensure that their food is delivered just the way our customers want it.”
While Chipotle is definitely a value-add for Postmates users, the fact that Postmates goes well beyond just being a delivery subcontractor for Chipotle makes this deal even better. With the colder months coming on and incentive for leaving the house falling through the floor, being able to set up a delivery with a few touchscreen presses and a little mobile payments magic is undoubtedly a welcome development in the making.
The fact that Postmates is available to 60 percent of US households is a great advance, yet one that leaves plenty of room for improvement. Just ask anyone who doesn’t yet have access. Hopefully, those people—or at least most of them—will be brought in from the cold soon.
