Best Buy Opens Up Its Same-Day Delivery Radius
We must hand it to Best Buy on this one; it’s out to make its delivery options as rapid as possible. While previously, only 13 cities enjoyed the benefits of same-day delivery options, a new move is going to add fully 14 more cities to the roster, and it will do so at reduced fees besides.
Same-day delivery fees are being slashed almost two thirds, going from $14.99 to just $5.99. That alone would be big news, but Best Buy is expanding into Charlotte, Denver, Minneapolis / St. Paul and San Diego. Best Buy will, at last report, be turning over delivery operations to a third-party provider, and that could be a chunk of why the prices have dropped.
Shoppers will need to place an order by 3 PM—2 PM on Sundays—in order to have their order arrive at their home by 9 PM that evening. This news comes on the heels of news that says Best Buy’s full-year revenue growth is expected to hit four percent, up from the earlier estimates of 2.5 percent, which is great news.
Best Buy’s online operations’ president, Allison Peterson, commented “Our stores have always been an option, but we know that there are times when a customer wants their items delivered to them quickly. By the holidays, many more customers will be able to choose same-day delivery and have it be an option on more items than ever before.”
It’s that last line that should get your attention. “By the holidays.” The start of holiday shopping season is maybe about two months out; some start in mid to late October—I do, where I can—while many start up in November. If Best Buy can make it easier to pick up purchases, then it makes itself a more ready option for Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa gift shopping. Throw in growing consumer confidence and you’ve got a recipe for some big sales out here.
Mobile payments are a great way to pay for items, and mobile shopping a great way to find these. But you’ve got to actually receive the items for it to mean anything. With Best Buy’s new move, it’s made it just a bit easier to actually receive your stuff, and that could give the company a real shot in the arm.
