Bryn Mawr Trust Steps Up Its Mobile Operations

More and more, we see banks taking the next big step forward when it comes to mobile payments and financial technology. Though they’re kind of behind the eight ball as development goes, there’s been clear advances, usually on a partnership front. Bryn Mawr Trust in Pennsylvania recently came on board with such an effort, offering customers the ability to use three of the major Pays—Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Android Pay—with a BMT Visa debit card.
Setup is said to be about standard, with a few simple mobile prompts to connect the card to the Pay systems. The payment systems themselves are well known for their overall ease of use and relative security. With these in place, users will be able to take advantage of simple touch-based pay systems at participating merchants.
Bryn Mawr Trust’s senior vice president and director of retail banking Steve Novak commented “BMT continues to invest in the tools that customers are asking for to help make banking anywhere anytime easier and more convenient. We have made several enhancements in the functionality of our BMT Visa Debit Cards in the past year, including launching Card Valet, an app that allows our customers to manage and control their debit cards though their smartphone. Now with the introduction of Apple, Samsung and Android Pay, BMT continues to add more value to our mobile banking and payments offerings for our customers.”
This is all fine and well—it’s one more service to add to the roster—but really, it’s kind of sad to see Novak make such a fuss over what amounts to a thing BMT should have been offering six months, even a year ago. Apple Pay is approaching its third birthday. It’s hard to congratulate BMT for stepping up to the plate and hitting that thoroughly uninspiring single, especially in light of recent reports about how banks have been lagging in the fintech market for some time now, a move that’s likely to cost them customers.
