Revelin, the UK-based fraud specialists, have announced it has appointed it has appointed e-commerce fraud prevention expert, Michaela Verstaeten as an advisor.

Michaela comes to Ravelin having done great work with Nike Europe, Levi Strauss, and Europol to enhance operational processes to combat fraud.

“I’ve been working with brands and merchants for many years helping to solve the issue of online fraud,” said Michaela. “What excited me about joining the Ravelin team, is that their approach is completely different and proving to be very effective. By focusing on identifying and verifying the customer, rather than on each individual payment transaction, a fraudster can be detected and stopped every time they come to a website. Ravelin have had significant early success from this approach in the real-time, on demand market and is well-positioned to help improve the operational processes for the wider e-commerce industry, and I’m excited to be part of this journey of success.”

Michaela will be assisting Ravelin’s clients with training and understanding the impact of fraud on their businesses.

The solution is one of a kind due to its combination of a rule set and machine learning.

In many cases, a small rule set is customized for merchants based on their needs by the Ravelin team while machine-learning models begin to educate it to understand and highlight acceptable and risky customers alike.

This is typically based on a huge range of linked factors, and based on learning the specific merchant’s customer behavior patterns.

“Michaela shares the same vision that we do, in that there is a huge opportunity for fraud detection solutions for businesses that are easier for the users and significantly more effective. She’s also personally interested in how emerging technologies, like machine learning and artificial intelligence can be used to deliver much more effective results in combatting payment and identity fraud, and that is exactly where Ravelin is headed today,” said Ravelin’s Commercial Director, Gerry Carr. “Ravelin’s clients will reap the rewards of having a proven fraud expert leading our charge as we expand our offerings.”
