GrubHub Adds Apple Pay to its Menu
GrubHub has long been a great way to order food and have it delivered, in areas that actually have restaurants willing to work with the service.
Now, there’s a whole new value afoot for GrubHub users: the Apple Pay mobile payments service.
Apple Pay has long been able to accommodate shopping in apps, making it as easy as scanning a fingerprint using the Apple Touch ID system.
That takes a lot of tedious form-filling out of the process, and given that Apple Pay also has a layer of extra security in play by assigning individual Device Account Numbers to the card numbers, and storing these in the Secure Element of the device used.
This helps keep the information out of unfriendly hands and, even if it does get out, reduces the chance anything could be used from it.
GrubHub’s senior vice president of product, Sudev Balakrishnan, commented “We’re always looking for ways to make it easier for our diners to find and order the type of food they want, when they want it, from their favorite local restaurants.
We’re thrilled to bring the ease of use of Apple Pay to our diners. It offers another quick and convenient way for them to pay for their meals, whether they’re at home or on the go.”
In the end, it’s all about offering options. The more options that a user can have, the better the chances that each customer will find something best suited to their needs and preferences.
Why alienate those who prefer using Apple Pay for just about everything when such a thing can be fixed with a few comparatively minor programming changes?
While it’s possible to have too many options, or have unnecessary options that few actually take advantage of, something simple as one more payment option isn’t likely to be the straw that breaks any camel’s back.
This will likely be a welcome move for GrubHub patrons, giving them one extra option and potentially pulling in more interested patrons.
Throw in the great potential for summer picnickers to be able to order and have food delivered remotely, and suddenly, GrubHub becomes the potential great new app of summer.
