Global payments technology company Visa, the exclusive payment provider of the Olympic Games, has commemorated the 100-day milestone to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Visa is creating and managing the entire payment system infrastructure and network throughout all venues for the games.
For this year’s event, the company will install 4,000 POS terminals across major Olympic venues, as well as 11 ATMs in collaboration with Bradesco, a leading bank and financial services company in Brazil.
Visa will also facilitate the development and advancement of payment infrastructure in Olympic Games host cities.
This year, the company will launch new innovation and technologies throughout Rio, bringing in new payment methods such as mobile phones and payment wearables.
Based on trends in recent summer Olympics, Brazil will likely welcome about 400,000 to 500,000 international visitors in August.
Visa also expects that 2016 inbound travel to the country will be up by around 1.2 million travelers, mainly due to preparations for the Olympics.
The country can also expect to see a boom in per travel spending based on data from previous events.
Jim McCarthy, executive vice president of innovation and strategic partnerships at Visa Inc, commented, “Visa has always stood for universal acceptance and the most secure and fast way to pay across merchants, borders and currencies. As we prepare for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Visa is transforming the way fans pay, giving them choice in how they want to pay for anything, anytime and everywhere.”
