Netherlands Gas Stations Ready MyOrder Mobile Payments Acceptance

These days, most gas stations treat you like you’re either a criminal currently or you’re about to be.

Requiring advance payment for gas may protect the station from drive-off potential, but it can be a pain for the consumer, unless they’re using a card or similar system.

Tamoil gas stations in the Netherlands will be taking that route this summer when 220 such stations bring MyOrder service to their operations.

Backed by Rabobank, and with a direct connection to the Tokheim fuel dispenser manufacturing operation, MyOrder can fairly readily be part of gas station operations.

Once a user uses MyOrder to send the payment, the pump is ready for use, allowing the transaction to move swiftly.

Even better, the MyOrder SmartWallet isn’t the only payment method that can be used with MyOrder; users can connect a regular credit card, PayPal, or even the iDeal payment system, which is one of the more popular systems in the Netherlands.

It’s not just convenient for the users, but also helpful for the vendors and gas stations as well.

The app can keep track of spending habits and refueling behavior, showing users where and how often they fill up.

That opens up the chance for loyalty programs or similar tools, which improve the chances that users will come back in the future to take advantage of the loyalty programs.

Gas stations often don’t have many ways to compete with other gas stations and try to establish brand loyalty.

Gas prices are one way, but there’s not much wiggle room between what the suppliers charge and the retail price.

An improved customer experience is a good way to compete, meanwhile, and bringing in a service like MyOrder which allows users to bypass the counter entirely could help.

It also may hurt the station in the long run, as many gas stations depend on inside impulse purchases—that can of soda or that candy bar or the like—to help make up the profits.

Still, it does improve return business, and if gas stations can get reasons for users to come inside and make other purchases, it should help improve the bottom line in the long run.

That’s the ultimate goal of any business, and mobile payment systems can help make that happen.
