POPSUGAR’s New Fashion-Themed Shopping Cart Pushes Expedience in Couture

POPSUGAR might best be known for its array of female-friendly content sources, but it’s also a retail marketing apparatus on par with the best.

Starting in April, it’s going to push that marketing capability harder than ever as it brings out a newly revamped version of its ShopStyle system to be an even more powerful solution for mobile shopping.

The new ShopStyle will be both website and mobile app, reports note, that allows shoppers to shop various retailers all from one cart, completing transactions right from that platform.

ShopStyle has been a POPSUGAR property since 2007, and has already paid off to the tune of $1 billion just last year.

Basically, with ShopStyle, users will be able to fill out a profile on the platform, and use the information contained therein to make purchases via the app and site. At last report there were better than 20 such retailers, with one figure noting the count as “in the dozens.”

POPSUGAR, in turn, nets a healthy 15 percent of sales generated from the use of ShopStyle, and has no plans to alter the deal. Instead, POPSUGAR figures that the increased user count that’s likely to come from a more convenient alternative will make the end result more profitable. With 71 percent of POPSUGAR.com—and ShopStyle—traffic coming from mobile devices, that’s a rational viewpoint.

Mobile shopping needs to be convenient in order to really get anywhere; no one will voluntarily shop a system that’s harder to use unless there’s another good reason to do so, like the prices are great or there are items not available anywhere else.

Ask yourself as much; would you go shopping at a store that offers Godiva for the same per-pound prices as M&Ms, but in order to shop there, you’d have to break a finger?

A more convenient system, even if it costs a little more or offers a little less, can be just as valuable as the system that offers great prices on rare goods but at great difficulty.

POPSUGAR’s plan, therefore, should pay off in grand style, as already-interested shoppers derive further value from a system that makes for easy connection to a wide variety of retailers.
