Creditcall’s Miura Systems M010 Card Reader May Mean Easier EMV

It’s been a disastrous run so far for the new Europay / Mastercard / Visa (EMV) credit card standard, with users increasingly dissatisfied by the time it takes to use and the assorted difficulties involved.

Enter Creditcall, provider of EMV kernel and payment gateways, to offer up a new card reader in the Miura Systems M010, a contactless card reader that might give EMV users a little extra help.

The new reader is available thanks to a recently-established Elavon certification, and with the new reader, Creditcall notes that users will be able to instantly accept both contactless payment methods as well as EMV chips, right at the mobile point of sale (PoS).

Plus, Creditcall’s Payment Gateway software development kit (SDK) is also on hand; the ChipDNA system allows contactless EMV readers and magnetic swipe card systems to work with several different certified breeds of card reader.

Miura Systems CEO Dan Salmons commented “Miura’s hugely popular M010 chip, swipe and contactless card reader is one of the most versatile devices on the market, enabling merchants to take payments whilst mobile, in-store or from the countertop.

We’re delighted to continue our strategic partnership with Creditcall in the U.S. They’re just the kind of partner we like, helping to make the M010 experience as seamless for merchants as it is for consumers.”

Could the ongoing problem that is EMV acceptance, or rather the lack thereof, be solved by something as simple as a new card reader? It’s possible, certainly, but it may not be quite that simple.

Still, with ongoing education problems, Miura and Creditcall being able to step in could be the key tipping point to get more EMV use in place and bring in all those outlying small businesses. With smaller businesses unconcerned about the fraud issues, as most don’t really believe themselves susceptible, but making EMV as simple as a new card reader could be just what’s needed to pull users forward.

It may not prove that simple in the end, but Miura and Creditcall may have just the combination to light the small business EMV market on fire in the short term.
