Auchan Kirchberg Introduced Digicash In-Store Payments

Customers of Luxembourg based Auchan would now be able to pay for their baked goods and groceries with their mobile devices.

Earlier this month, Auchan Kirchberg has announced that they have effectively installed the Digicash payment system at their outlet.

The Digicash system was introduced by some of the top banks in Luxembourg in late 2012. Besides Post Luxembourg, BGL BNP Paribas, Banque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’Etat, Luxembourg (BCEE), and Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL) are backing the Digicash system. Since the app is directly issued from the banking institutions, it had to meet a higher regulatory direction in Luxembourg and offers better security.

On September 15, 2015, Digicash mentioned (French) on their website that besides accepting payments via Digicash, Auchan Luxembourg has also merged & integrated their payment and loyalty program with the new system.

The announcement says that integrating payments and loyalty points offer Auchan customers to link their card to the Digicash app provided by their bank. Now, customers will not need to present their Auchan loyalty card to earn points and cash back offers. Instead, Digicash will systematically manage the loyalty program on the go when the transaction is made.

“This is an important milestone in the product development of Digicash,” said Raoul Mulheims, the CEO of Digicash Payment. He told media that his company’s goal is to position itself as “best in class” in all contexts of payments in the local market.

After redesigning bill payment and online payment, the Digicash in-store device would add real value in terms of faster and more secure checkouts at the supermarket.

Commenting on introducing Digicash in the store, Director of Auchan Kirchberg, Gueuzurian for Marc, said that this technological evolution would allow them to consider other financial applications related to their business. “We are always aiming to improve the quality of [our] service and provide a comfortable purchase experience to our customers,” he added.

The Digicash payment system supports both iOS and Android apps provided by the participating banks. So far, around 10% local customers of these banks have downloaded the app on their smartphones.
