Barclaycard Android App to Support NFC Payments Starting in November

September 15, 2015 by

The major credit card provider announced that the Barclaycard Android app will be capable of supporting NFC payments when the calendar turns to November 2015.

As of right now, Google is dragging its feet, and has not yet launched Android Pay in the UK. With the insurgence from competitors surely on its way, Barclaycard remains ahead of the curve in regard to mobile payments.

Currently, nearly 40 percent of smartphones within the UK have NFC capabilities built-in since the introduction of Android phones in 2011. In addition, NFC technology is also supported by iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and will be for iPhone 6S, and 6S Plus.

The new and improved Barclaycard App is designed to support NFC payments, and will allow its customers to make transactions ranging up to 30 euros. By simply tapping their mobile device at a specific pay point, they can make payments up to 100 euros by entering their PIN number.

With the update, there is also a customer care center feature wherein customers can report a lost, stolen, or damaged card—receiving an “instant card replacement.”

Once the request is filed, a new, virtual card will be added to the customer’s app, making it available for instant use while a new physical card is produced.
