PayPoint Launches Secure Payments Plugin for Online Merchants

Payment technology provider PayPoint has unveiled CardLock, a secure payments plugin that significantly reduces PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) scope in digital merchants’ existing websites.

Designed with merchants in mind, CardLock enables them to retain control of their overall payments experience, at the same time reducing their PCI obligations by 60 percent.

The invisible tokenization technology works together with PayPoint’s payments API, allowing merchants to retain a seamless consumer experience without the need to handle or store sensitive cardholder information. CardLock does this by intercepting and tokenizing card data before the payment submission with no redirects.

As CardLock secures card information at the source, no payment information is stored, processed or transmitted by the merchant, even in succeeding API payment requests. This reduces the scale of PCI DSS compliance thus giving digital merchants more options on how to address their obligations.

Merchants can instead focus on developing their own online and mobile consumer experiences, rather than burden themselves with rigorous and expensive compliance tasks.

Dan Salmons, Managing Director, PayPoint Mobile and Online commented, “CardLock has been specifically designed to fit in with a merchant’s existing systems so that they retain full control over their customers’ checkout experience, even though our service invisibly tackles the security of cardholder data, and later handles the actual payment for them too.”
