MasterCard Adds Leading Online Retailer to MasterPass Roster

MasterCard has announced it has added another online retailer in its roster of online merchants that accept MasterPass.

Wayfair, an online purveyor of home goods and furnishings and its affiliated brands will allow fast and easy checkouts through MasterPass this fall.

According to Matt Barr, MasterCard’s Group Head for US Emerging Payments, “MasterCard is in the business of helping our partners — issuers and merchants alike —enhance their offerings so they can deliver a richer, deeper, customized end user experience. As consumers embrace a digital lifestyle, shopping and payment experiences must also evolve. MasterPass is our answer to this shift, which enables simplified and secure shopping experience, in app or online. We will continue making investments to drive this convergence and push the technology forward.”

MasterCard has long touted itself less as a payments company, and more as a technology company. It appears that their efforts are supporting this claim, as MasterPass has worked its way through the global payments ecosystem not by competing with mobile and other payment platforms, but instead partnering to bring its offerings to the forefront.

This agnostic approach to payments is helping to bring consumers and merchants together for a simpler way to pay through MasterPass, which is now available in 17 countries.

Thanks to partnerships with issuers like Citi, MasterPass is also enabled in Citi Wallet, along with a whole host of online merchants, and that list is growing.
