Oberthur Technologies is linking with ICA Banken, a bank based out of Sweden, to bring its Dual Interface payment card solution to the country.

ICA Banken will be the first bank in Sweden to move to dual interface cards, and will provide 500,000 of their banking customers with these new payment cards.

Combining both contact and contactless payments capabilities into a single card, Oberthur Technologies claims these cards will make transactions faster and more secure.

ICA Banken is a subsidiary of ICA Gruppen, which is a leading grocery retailer in Sweden. Naturally, their customers will receive wide support for the new contactless payment feature.

According to Marie Halling, CEO of ICA Banken, “ICA Banken believes that contactless payments will play an important role in the future of payments and we constantly strive to make our customers’ lives easier with fast and convenient payments within ICA. We chose to extend our partnership with Oberthur Technologies for this important launch thanks to OT´s technical knowledge and expertise in the field.”

Oberthur Technologies reports more than 1.5 billion EMV cards issued worldwide in its credit to date.
