Neteller Brings Together Boku & Optimal Payments Technology
Boku was by itself a name to be reckoned with in the mobile payments space, especially as far as carrier billing-based options went.
But recent moves have lead to an expansion in Boku’s capabilities, as Optimal Payments is bringing Boku’s technology to its Neteller service. This is a move that should get Boku technology into even more hands, and give Optimal Payments users fresh value in the process.
With the Boku technology in place, Neteller users will be able to add to stored-value accounts by charging the relevant values of purchased goods and services directly to a mobile phone bill.
Any merchant that currently uses reloadable payment systems through either the Neteller service, or through the Net+ Card will be able to take advantage of this, and customers in turn will be able to use the service throughout the Neteller network, which appears to be closely connected to businesses that accept Discover cards at point-of-sale locations, as well as a wide variety of websites.
Perhaps more appealing, at least to some, is the knowledge that Neteller account holders don’t need to offer up bank information in order to put Neteller to use.
That lack of information means less friction and a welcome development for users concerned about protecting identities.
Plus, with the new partnership comes new locations able to take Neteller; users in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, and Denmark can all make deposits with the system thanks to the new development.
Optimal Payments’ Lorenzo Pellegrino, who serves as the company’s executive vice president, offered up some comment on the move, saying “Our merchants have been requesting a carrier billing solution and the one offered by Boku is an ideal answer to a difficult problem. It is simple and convenient for customers, and it opens up new markets of potential mobile phone users who were unable, or chose not to, top-up their accounts using other payment methods in the past.”
