Wirecard’s Boon Service Lands at MWC 2015

There’s no doubt that the mobile payment market is a robust one, and if there were any doubts that such was the case, just take a look at the announcements which took place at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Wirecard, unveiled just one of many of those developments, and its upcoming release of its boon mobile payment app is another entrant to further drive this steadily growing market.

The HCE-based mobile payment system is said to be operable with Android devices starting with version 4.4—and reports suggest that it will be available for use starting in summer of this year.

With HCE in place, a lot of concerns that might have been held about payment security should make the system safer for use, a key component to any mobile payment system.

Boon supports payments made through both Wi-Fi and NFC, and there’s also the ability to send P2P payments through the app, giving more options for its users to pay.

With support for mobile loyalty and rewards, it’s clear boon wants to onboard both merchants and consumers to its mobile payment initiative.

However, as it stands currently, payments can only be made at participating retailers with MasterCard’s PayPass installed.

Only time will tell just how well boon works in the market. With a host of other competitors already here, and a few high profile entrants to come shortly, gathering a substantial amount of users may prove difficult.
