Cover Combines Maps, Yelp, and Payments for Restaurants
A new app has been released that attempts to combine parts of Google Maps, Yelp, and Apple Pay for restaurants.
Its name is Cover and it has launched in Los Angeles, with three functions in an elegant and seamless package. Well-designed and convenient, the app has already received accolades and a fair amount of press coverage, despite its availability being limited previously to New York City, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City.
It works like this: you can search for a restaurant or select one from a list. You choose the one you like, tap it, and you can get directions, read reviews, or reserve a table. Then you can go, enjoy your meal, and pay directly in the app. No need to wait for a bill or change.
There’s no complex technology here, but the app’s real power is in covering the entire dining experience from discovery to payment. The convenience is enough to get restaurants on board, so it’s undoubtedly going to grow.
That doesn’t mean Cover is the next Uber (although it may be). Since it’s such simple technology, Cover may see copycats take over other cities before they have a chance to expand.
