myPINpad’s PIN-based authentication technology will now be available to digital commerce applications thanks to a new partnership between the UK-based technology firm and international payments provider VocaLink.
The five-year agreement comes after Vocalink’s recent completion of successful proof of concept trials with myPINpad. With its Cardholder PIN, myPINpad allows multi-channel and multi-factor authentication for unsecured mobile devices.
VocaLink plays an essential role in payments processing in the UK being the chosen provider of three major payment transaction services in the country—LINK ATM Service, Faster Payments Service and BACS.
The companies have already started collaborative talks with several banks, issuers, acquirers, merchants and PSPs in the country. These discussions are centered on several authentication use cases to reduce fraud and provide new levels of security and ease of use to UK consumers.
Philip King, chairman and CEO of myPINpad, commented, “VocaLink’s trust in the myPINpad solution is another milestone in our now established journey of becoming the most trusted authentication service for the secure entry of consumer credentials in mobile payments. Our partnership with VocaLink enables any UK mobile payments service to take advantage of this PIN digitisation service to open up new channels of business and, importantly, to satisfy objectives set by regulators.”
myPINpad and VocaLink partnership, which seeks to offer innovative mobile and online payments and improve the security of payment services and consumer protection, is relevant to the revised Directive on Payment Services (PSD2) adopted by the European Parliament.
PSD2 is the latest in a series of laws recently adopted by the EU to offer modern, efficient and cheap payment services and enhance protection for European consumers and businesses.
