US Banking Disruption Conference Partners with Visa
A major financial technology conference taking place in Miami has announced Visa as the Title Sponsor for the event, adding to the long list of powerhouse companies that are participants.
The conference will take place this weekend and include talks from executives, specialists and IT experts from the likes of Microsoft, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Visa, MasterCard and many others. The day and a half event will explore the challenges facing traditional financial institutions and the role that financial technology companies play as disruptors to the sector.
One of the key talks will be given by Jose Maria Ayuso, Senior VP of Product at Visa Latin American and the Caribbean. “We are excited to be part of the Fintech Americas 2015 Conference, which is growing to be a lead event for the Americas, highlighting the latest trends in the industry and how key players can capitalize for rapid evolution driven by new technologies,” he said.
Ayuso went on to advocate standardization, interoperability, global accessibility, cooperation and security as key points of the conference.
One key focus of the conference has been Latin America, which has the potential to become a major source of allies for major US banks. Ray Ruga, co-founder of Fintech Americas, discussed the vast potential of fintech usage in Latin America, noting the 130 million people living in poverty combined with the 210 million who don’t use a bank account.
Ruga believes traditional financial services can be bypassed in these areas by providing cheap and easily accessible financial services to these immiserated people. Mexico was also focused on, in particular how fintech can be used to bridge the gap between the US and Mexico both financially and culturally.
