Mobile commerce is evolving at a rapid pace, giving mobile wallet providers an opportunity to make a huge impact on the way consumers interact and buy from businesses.
As some of the largest players in the payments industry strategize and prepare for the mobile revolution, Discover has swiftly supported the need to incorporate mobile technologies to better serve its merchants and card members.
“Providing a digital shopping experience is no longer a luxury, but an expectation among consumers,” said Amy Parsons, VP of Global Commerce at Discover. “This means mobile-first features for an omnichannel experience; one-touch checkout integration, loyalty and location-based rewards, along with preorder and mobile wallet payments support. This also means more opportunities for merchants with brick and mortar stores to better engage consumers and drive loyalty.”
Discover is acutely aware of the growth in mobile commerce. The company has seen the rise of mobile wallets and the success of loyalty programs, and has adjusted its own strategies accordingly.
According to Parsons, Discover is wholly committed to moving the most important aspects of a merchant’s business to mobile, digital, and beyond.
“We are developing a platform that connects different ways to pay with mobile wallet providers, while emphasizing security, simplicity and control. Discover is also continuing to work with merchants to create meaningful offers that drive cardmembers into the store. Traditionally, these offers would have been delivered via statement inserts, but have been moving to the digital world through Discover Deals, which is available via the big browser and mobile app.”
With payment networks acting as the strongest link between merchant and consumer, it’s no surprise that Discover has already announced several partnerships with mobile payment players – Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Android Pay.
In the end, “Discover’s goal is to provide customers the freedom, options and simplicity of making mobile payments with whatever method they choose,” Parsons adds. “We are always listening and looking to make payments seamless, simple, and secure. Offering mobile wallets allows us to accomplish both of these goals.”
