With the rumored inclusion of bitcoin acceptance into the payments platform, the digital currency will get a far greater thrust into the mainstream economy with mass audience appeal.
Initial reports from Coinbase indicate that the eBay subsidiary may soon begin to accept bitcoin in the immediate future, which is a much needed jolt for the cryptocurrency; recently the price of bitcoin has sagged to a record low of $450 per one bitcoin.
Despite the volatility, some big-name retailers are beginning to get on the bitcoin bandwagon such as Dell, NewEgg, and Overstock to name a few.
In a June press conference, eBay CEO John Donahoe said, “there’s no doubt digital currency is going to play an important role going forward, and at PayPal, we’re going to have to integrate digital currencies into our wallet.”
