Dell Now Largest Retailer to Accept Bitcoin
Dell Computers, fondly remembered through their infamous slogan; “Dude, I’m getting a Dell!” is partnering with digital wallet provider, Coinbase to provide an edgy new alternative payment channel for the PC power seller.
Dell is the third biggest retailer of PCs with annual revenue of around $57 billion globally. Dell is now the largest retailer to acquiesce the new digital payment method. You can find out more about the program from the web page they created to explain how this new process works.
Dell’s founder and chief executive Michael Dell tweeted the announcement earlier, “Dell is now the world’s largest e-commerce business to accept Bitcoin.”
Another blog post from employee Laura Thomas in relation to the Bitcoin development announced, “I’m excited to share in the coming days we’ll be offering a special Alienware promotion wherein customers can save 10 percent off a new Alienware system purchase (up to $150 limit) when checking out with Bitcoin. Stay tuned to Dell.com/bitcoin for more information on this exciting offer.”
Speaking on behalf of Coinbase was Fred Ehrsam, co-founder, who said that it took the Coinbase team just two weeks to go from planning to launching the feature: “We’ve fostered a close partnership with the Dell team and that’s been instrumental in getting the Coinbase integration up and running in such a short timeframe. We look forward to continuing to support the team as they explore other ways to offer even more functionality when it comes to Bitcoin payments.”
This payments upgrade for the computer powerhouse is targeted to launch for the US retail markets first before becoming an option for Dell’s global clientele.
Known for his frontier mentality, Michael Dell is never far from the cutting edge, and this early adoption of the nascent new currency protocol is a testament to his continued strident march to be the world’s number one provider of PC power.
