Mobile Payment Option Now Available at Chick-Fil-A

The chicken fast food chain, Chick-Fil-A, is launching a pilot mobile payment application in 20 North Carolina locations adding to a number of fast food restaurants that have already begun using the technology.

Having a mobile payment option is quickly becoming an essential upgrade in order to stay competitive with the booming growth in the industry.

ABI Research predicts that the mobile payment industry will reach $191 billion annually by 2017 worldwide. In addition to Chick-Fil-A jumping on the mobile bandwagon, other well-known brands like McDonalds, Starbucks, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King have already begun implementing similar payment options.

In Chick-Fil-A’s application, QR codes will be utilized to enable mobile payments to be used at the register or in the drive-thru. The app can be downloaded and an account registered to enable tap-to-pay usability in the 20 preselected locations. After linking a debit or credit card to the free app, the cashier only has to scan the pop-up QR code to make a payment.

The ability to make payments quickly should help to speed up customer service and appeal to a broad customer base. If the new payment method turns out to be as convenient as management expects, another roll-out to other markets will prepare customers nationwide to start expecting smart-phone payment options at all Chick-Fil-A restaurants.
