SUBWAY Launches NFC Mobile Payments with Softcard
SUBWAY customers can now use their mobile devices to pay at over 26,000 locations across the United States thanks to a partnership between the restaurant chain and mobile payments venture Softcard.
The October 1 launch completes a rollout announced earlier in September.
Earning reward points will also become easier for customers as the SUBWAY brand is planning to add its SUBWAY Card Rewards Program into the free Softcard app in select markets.
“We’re excited to give our customers a seamless way to enjoy SUBWAY offers and rewards through the Softcard app,” said Carman Wenkoff, Chief Information Officer for SUBWAY.
“By mobilizing our SUBWAY Card Rewards Program in Softcard, we can offer customers an easier, more meaningful experience through the technology they use most – their smartphones.”
Customers can now download and use the free Softcard app on over 80 mobile devices across Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and AT&T and tap to pay at over 200,000 locations across the U.S.
Formerly called Isis Wallet, Softcard offers a safer way to pay, redeem offers and use loyalty cards—all in just a simple tap—through its contactless EMV global standard and SmartTap mobile commerce technology.
SUBWAY’s move is a milestone for the mobile payments sector, being the biggest deployment of mobile payments in the country. Together with efforts by other firms including Apple, which now supports NFC technology, mobile payments is gradually gaining traction with retailers.
