Griffin Creates Square iPhone Case To Help Protect Your Mobile POS

Mobile payment processor Square has seen an enormous amount of success with its magnetic stripe dongle. And why shouldn’t it? Its ability to read a credit card straight from a merchant’s phone has given them the freedom to do business just about anywhere. But all it takes is one sweaty-palmed customer who’s perhaps just a little too excited about paying their favorite taco truck with a credit card to see that Square’s iPhone Merchant Case is a great idea.

Teaming up with phone and tablet case provider Griffin, Square will be taking some of the risk out of dealing with payments through a phone for mobile merchants. With “non-slip sides and corners” both merchants and customers will be less likely to drop the phone, and, should this fail, the silicone case should offer it plenty of protection from a nasty fall. Unfortunately, the case doesn’t seem to be water proof (apparently Square has no love for scuba diving entrepreneurs).

While Square’s dongle won’t fit over most phone cases, the Square’s iPhone Merchant case actually attaches to the dongle which will keep the device from spinning around inside the merchant’s headphone jack, which can actually wear the jack out.

Griffin’s case is the first to receive the Works With Square seal of approval. Works With Square is a program that is meant to encourage developers to create accessories and gadgets to enhance Square’s payment system. After approval- these accessories can showcase their Works With Square badge right on the package.

The case itself isn’t exactly the most elegant looking, and merchants shouldn’t expect it to replace their out-of-work case (the thing is huge). But for merchants looking to take their business on the go, Square’s iPhone merchant case may very well become a standard in the industry.
