LevelUp Releases Connected Apps SDK For Developers
LevelUp has released an SDK for developers to connect their apps to the payment network. This allows app developers to give their customers the ability to take advantage of the services and offerings of LevelUp, including checkout, transaction histories, and rewards and loyalty programs.
The process involves the customer choosing the LevelUp checkout option from the app or website, entering the user’s associated email address, and then confirming a corresponding email or push notification on their mobile device.
This appears to be a natural expansion of LevelUp’s services. Previously, LevelUp’s main offering was a NFC-based mobile wallet. The Connected Apps feature is most likely the company’s effort to take advantage of the growing share of online commerce, especially on mobile devices. Since shopping on a mobile device can be quite frustrating, namely entering payment information at checkout, LevelUp’s integration will be able to streamline the process on smartphones and tablets.
Paying with LevelUp incentivizes the buying experience for both the consumer and merchant. Websites and apps with the Connected Apps SDK can enable loyalty milestones that generate repeat business. There is an emphasis on Connected Apps to provide a layer of security, usability, and feature set that would make LevelUp attractive to the both sides of the transaction.
The feature is currently in beta, so those with a keen interest on trying it out, might need to wait a bit longer.
