REWE Group in Austria Launches New Cash Back Service

Things will be looking up for Austrian supermarket goers as a result of a new service.

Customers will soon be able to take advantage of a new offering that allows them to pay for their food shopping at BILLA, MERKUR or PENNY with a debit card and at the same time withdraw cash. This new function is provided entirely by SIX Payment Services.

The popularity of cards is indisputable, and is growing steadily. And yet, cash remains a catalyst for many customers in Austria and for a majority of the world. This ability is a great thing for those who wish to access cash easily via a large network of retail locations.

There are only a few constrains involved with the service, namely the payment must be made via Maestro debit card. Customers are permitted to withdraw up to 100 euros without incurring a debit card fee and may do so multiple times throughout the day.

Customers need only pay for their purchase and the cashier at the retail location of their choice will then dispense the desired sum of cash. The withdrawal of cash will be present separately on the receipt.

This cash-back service might be exactly what customers need at the moment with the state of bank account charges and bank branch closure volume.

Thomas Grabner, Managing Director SIX Payment Services in Austria, commented:

“We are delighted to be part of the launch of this unique service in Austria Consumers should continue to have the freedom of choice in payment methods and as we all understand, cash plays an integral part of everyday life. The launch of the new service means that the consumer can access cash which previously was only available at a cash machine or bank branch.”
